LGO is a geosciences laboratory that uses different approaches covering geology, geophysics, geochemistry, sedimentology and paleontology in connection with paleoclimatology and the paleobiosphere. The research is applied to the earth's mantle, to the crust and the surface, with a particular accent on the modern and ancient ocean regions. The laboratory studies the ocean bed and its substratum, from the deep ocean to the coastline. The LGO is also integrated to the European Institute for Marine Studies (IUEM) and some of the laboratory's researchers are also attached to the Naval Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service (SHOM), to the centre for the study and expertise of risk, the environment, mobility and land use (Cerema) and France Energies Marines (FEM).
