DynamiT digital fishing gear simulation software
Description
Type of entity Equipment
Main activity This software works on Windows PCs. Having entered the detailed characteristics of an item of fishing gear (nets, long-lines), it simulates the item's behaviour under different stresses. The software is intended to help explore solutions for sustainable fishing.

Examples of work DynamiT software, and in particular its most research-focused version, are used in many research projects. They were used during the 2007 fuel crisis to quickly find solutions for reducing energy consumption in the least efficient trawl nets, this project was undertaken jointly with the Comité Régional des Pêches et Elevages Marins (Regional Committee of Maritime Fisheries and Marine Fish Farming). It is also typically used to reduce the impact of towed gear on the sea floor. The Optipeche project illustrates this. The software has also been used to study scientific trawl net designs with better geometric stability.

A pioneer in ocean science, IFREMER's cutting-edge research is grounded in sustainable development and open science. His vision is to advance science, expertise and innovation to protect and restore the ocean, sustainably use marine resources to benefit societ, create and share ocean data, information & knowledge.
With more than 1,500 personnel spread along the French coastline in more than 20 sites, the institute explores the 3 great oceans: the Indian, Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
Founded in 1984, IFREMER is a French public organization and its budget approximates 240 million euros. It is operating under the joint authority of the French Ministry for Higher Education, Research and Innovation, the French Ministry for the Ecological and Solidary Transition, and the French Ministry of Agriculture and Food.
