Maritime Rescue Simulation Platform (SUMO)
Description
Type of entity Platform
Main activity Nautical and aeronautical simulation platform. This simulation platform is intended for helicopter rescue and rescue at sea. It provides a highly realistic environment which enables a medical intervention team to work in situations which are dangerous, confined (helicopter rescue and rescue at sea) and unpleasant (moving boat, seasickness, disagreeable odours, etc.).
The platform provides a high level of immersion: it reproduces various vibrations and movements, very similar to those of a ship at sea or a helicopter in flight (it even recreates real weather conditions), to ensure the sensation and movement are as realistic as possible.
The movement is accompanied by sound effects (to represent the sound of wind and waves), odours (the smell of marine diesel, fish, etc.), and a hyper-realistic visual environment (220-degree visualisation of the state of the sea and the sky).
This platform is the only one of its kind in Europe. It facilitates skills training, automation exercises for technical/medical procedures, training in managing complex rescue situations, behaviour analysis in crisis situations, etc.
Keywords simulation, ocean environment, helicopter operations, rescue at sea, medical training, lifesaving, sailors, yacht crews, maritime emergency medical services (SMUR), rescue workers, firefighters, lifeboats (SNSM), lifeguards (CRS), armed forces
